PCC offers professional public relations program

PORTLAND, Ore. – Expand your career opportunities with practical training in the public relations (PR) field. Portland Community College will offer a new professional program for those wishing to break into the field, or for those already doing some PR work, but wish to refine and enhance their skills. Dr. Macy Guppy will lead the Public Relations Career Certificate Program, focusing on real-world situations. The program features three classes offered in a short-term intensive format to allow you to make progress quickly. A certificate of completion will be issued following each course and a full career certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the three core classes. Participants can complete the program in two terms. This fall, classes include the following: Fundamentals of Public Relations — Get a comprehensive look at PR theory, ethics and practice, and build an overall base for career exploration. The two-day class will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, in the Pine Room of the CC Building on the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49 Ave. Cost is $69. PR Writing and Media Relations — Become confident and polished in your public communications. The class focuses on writing skills for all types of promotional material, and creating copy and basic design for a promotional piece. Gain speaking skills and communication tactics and boost your career portfolio. The six-week class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 4 through Nov. 8, in Room 203 of the SCB Building at PCCs Sylvania Campus. Cost is $109. Partnerships for Powerful PR — Capitalize on the power of partnerships the secret weapon of PR practitioners with smaller budgets. Instructor and PR professional Jennifer Boehmer will explain how positive partnerships can take your organization into new markets and new directions. The one-day class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in Room 301 at the PCC Central Portland Workforce Training Center, 1626 S.E. Water Ave. Cost is $29.
