PCC's accreditation re-affirmed

Photos and Story by

PORTLAND, Ore. – The accreditation of Portland Community College has been reaffirmed by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).The decision was based on a comprehensive evaluation that took place in April 2005 during the visit of an 18-member accreditation team. College participants included the President’s Cabinet as well as various advisory committees consisting of staff, faculty, administrators and students. The NWCCU accreditation committee commended PCC in four general areas:* Commends faculty, staff, administration and Board of Directors for their dedication and focus on student success.* Commends the college for the well-designed and well-maintained facilities and grounds, reflecting and supporting the mission of the college.* Commends the college for its innovative programs and services in meeting the needs of the community it serves.* Given the scale, scope and complexity of PCC, the committee commends the faculty for their role in ensuring the academic integrity of the curriculum. The comprehensive review, required by the U.S. Department of Education, occurs every 10 years. PCC currently enjoys accreditation status through the commission, with the previous evaluation for reaffirmation of accreditation coming in 1995. The college has had interim and progress reports, visits and evaluations in 1997, 2000, 2001 and 2003.
