Tour Arts-and-Crafts homes with PCC lecture series

PORTLAND, Ore. – A new non-credit series and tour will explore the friezes, moldings, lighting, metal work and more of Portland period homes.Internationally renowned artisan CJ Hurley and Arts and Crafts historian Barbara Pearce will lead a new non-credit series offered by Portland Community College. Arts and Crafts Movement: Home Tour Series will feature two lectures and culminate with a tour inside Portland period homes. The series will meet for three Saturdays Oct. 29, Nov. 5 and Nov. 19 at PCCs Southeast Center, 2305 S.E. 82nd Ave. Cost is $60 plus a $125 fee. Topics include: The History of the Arts and Crafts Movement (Oct. 29). Examine the Arts and Crafts Movement from an international perspective. Students will learn about the Industrial Revolutions impact on art, architecture and decorative objects. The lecture will meet from 9 a.m. to noon.Visionary Aspects of the Arts and Crafts Movement (Nov. 5).Discover what inspired architects to unite their designs with nature. The lecture will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and includes a slide presentation. The Arts and Crafts Movement in Portland (Nov. 19). Join an extensive four-hour tour of local homes led by an internationally-known artist. Make comparisons and contrasts of the many topics covered in previous lectures.
