Accent specialist helps students speak English clearly

Photos and Story by

HILLSBORO, Ore. – Learning to speak a second language is difficult and mastering an English accent can be especially difficult. Portland Community College offers a solution: a one-day workshop designed especially for non-native English speakers. Do others have difficulty understanding you when you speak English because of your accent? Don’t let accent issues keep you from being understood any longer. Speaking without an Accentcovers basic strategies from a specialist to improve the "melody" or intonation of your English. Daren Packard, an accent reduction specialist, will lead the class. The one-day workshop will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in Room 115 of Glencoe High School, 2700 N.W. Glencoe Road. Cost is $24. For more information, contact the PCC Community Education office at 503-533-2708.
