College teams up with Sabin, Microsoft for community multimedia project

PORTLAND, Ore. – From 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, Portland Community College, Sabin Community Development Corporation and Microsoft Corporation will introduce the new Microsoft Unlimited Potential community computer training program. The event will take place at the Moriarty Arts and Humanities Building at the Cascade Campus, 705 N. Killingsworth St. The public is invited to celebrate the introduction of this ground-breaking program, which will provide area students, parents and community members free and convenient access to state-of-the-art multimedia and computer training tools. The event will include a student demonstration of the digital video movie making program offered in Sabin’s community media classes, tours of PCCs state-of-the-art multimedia labs, a preview of the Unlimited Potential curriculum designed by Linda Testa of Microsoft, music by jazz musician David Whatley, demonstrations of "Serious Magic" television broadcasting design software, and more. Microsoft awarded two grants to Sabin to run the program $240,000 worth of training program software for the "Unlimited Potential" program and cash for instructors, equipment and learning tools for the community. The curriculum will be used at four community centers with central learning hubs at Jefferson High School and PCC.
