Graduate to speak on counseling assault victims

Crystal Tenty, a 2003 graduate of Portland Community College, will return to the college to speak on the topic of, “Providing Peer Counseling to Sexual Assault Survivors.”

This event begins at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 in the Spruce Room (CC Building) of the Sylvania Campus, located at 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. She will explore issues with this kind of counseling and relate her experiences helping sexual assault survivors. Tenty is a direct service specialist specializing in sexual assault advocacy and sex industry outreach with the Portland Women’s Crisis Line. She served as a PCC Sylvania Women’s Resource Center student advocate in 2002-03.

“Working as a student advocate in the PCC Sylvania Women’s Resource Center was a pivotal experience in my life and tremendously aided in my academic and professional development,” said Tenty.

In her current position at Portland Women’s Crisis Line she helps guide survivors of sexual assault through the healing process. Tenty began work with crisis line as a volunteer in October 2005 and was hired on as full time staff a year later. She has a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Portland State University where she is also completing her master’s degree in conflict resolution.
