Biz class focuses on Hispanic workforce resources

For businesses, cultural communication differences often can be a huge barrier to overcome, especially in the business environment. With more than 42 million Hispanic workers in the United States, this emerging workforce is going to be more and more prevalent, and businesses must know how to work effectively with this group’s invaluable resources.
This summer Portland Community College will offer a non-credit class designed to aid businesses in strengthening communication and performance in the workplace. The course, Transforming the Hispanic Workforce, explores how to maximize the talents of workers so productivity and profitability are enhanced. Instructors Marcos Miranda and Lester Line will explore the developments in the biology of cognition, the philosophy of language, and managerial practices that generate sustainable and powerful transformational results.
The class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesdays, July 10 through July 31, in Room 1544 at the Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Cost is $75.
