Student Support Services adds new staff

The Student Support Services Division has hired many new staff at the Sylvania Campus. Sonya Bediant will be joining the Counseling Department for the fall term. Bediant has a master’s degree in counseling from Lewis and Clark and was both an intern and a part-time counselor at Sylvania before spending six years as a half-time counselor at Rock Creek. Sonya will be teaching Study Skills and Career Exploration classes as well as counseling students full time in the counseling office.

Harry Zweben joins the Office for Students with Disabilities as a rehabilitation counselor in the fall. He received his masters in rehabilitation counseling from Portland State University and has served as an accommodations coordinator at PSU as well as alternative testing coordinator at OSU.

Elizabeth Kimberly will also be join the Office for Students with Disabilities as a rehabilitation counselor in the fall. Kimberly has a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and has served as an accommodations specialist at Waubonsee Community College in Illinois as well as a mental health specialist at Clackamas County Behavioral Health Services.

Adon Arnett will be joining the College Success Skills Department in a one-year temporary assignment as an instructor in developmental reading and writing. Arnett has an master’s degree in English from New Mexico State University and has served as an instructor of English at Southern Utah University as well as an instructor in developmental reading and writing at PCC’s Sylvania Campus and Southeast Center. Most recently, Arnett has been coordinating Sylvania’s pilot Learning Communities program.

Andrew Black will be joining the Student Success Center permanently as an Instructional Support Technician. He has been serving in the Student Success Center on a temporary basis for the past year and has done an outstanding job supporting students in making use of the computer lab, the educational materials and software, the Conversation Partners program, and many other resources.
