High tech training for non-native English speakers starts this fall

PCC’s CAPITAL Career Center is currently recruiting non-native English speaking students for their Entry-Level High Tech Skills Training. PCC and a consortium of circuit board manufacturers are offering this training for individuals desiring to enter the high-tech field for the first time. Consortium members include Merix Corporation, Vanguard EMS, Axiom Electronics, Precision Wire Components and Synetics Solutions. The consortium plans to hire from the pool of students completing the training.

The classes consist of an introduction to the high tech industry; a tour of the consortium’s companies; safety on the job; 20 hours of soldering training; communication and teamwork; an introduction to statistical process control; learning employer expectations; and reading, writing, math and basic computer skills. Training will also include job-search workshops and assistance in placement after completion of the training. This training will be the 11th class offered with over 180 students successfully completing with a 90% employment success rate!

The seven-week training is free and is offered at PCC/CAPITAL Career Center from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, October 1st, 2007-November 16th, 2007. Students must first attend an informational orientation to learn more about the training.
