PCC class wants musicians

Photos and Story by

For people who are musically inclined and have a dream of joining a musical group, then look no further than Portland Community College.

A credit course, Symphonic Band: Brass, Woodwind and Percussion (MUS199B), is a large conducted ensemble of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments that rehearses and performs repertoire from the 17th through 21st centuries. Course is intended to fulfill the large ensemble requirement for music majors. No audition is required although students must have the ability to read music. The instructor is Robert Izzett.

“We will be launching a large PCC concert band for the first time beginning in the winter term,” said John Mery, music instructor. “If you played in high school band, or in a marching band; if you play a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument and enjoy making great music, then this group is for you.”

Symphonic Band: Brass, Woodwinds and Percussion (CRN 16428) is one credit and meets from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 9 through March 19 in Room 123 of the HT Building at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. Cost of the class is $80.
