Spring e-cleaning with recycling drive at PCC-Sylvania

Photos and Story by

Portland Community College’s Sylvania Campus, along with Bear eCycling and GreenWall Industries, will host the first-ever “E-Cycling” drive to collect unwanted home electronics equipment.

This event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 17 in Parking Lot 10, Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. The first 500 computer monitors and television sets will be accepted free of charge, with a limit of two monitors or TVs per customer – a bargain compared to other “E-Cycling” events that charge up to $10 per computer monitor or TV. Additional monitors or TVs over the two-per-customer limit are $5 each. Television sets larger than 35 inches count as two units.

Donated computer items will be triaged on-site to determine if they can be used again; if not, they will be completely and responsibly recycled. Students will collect data at the event about donors and donations as part of class research projects.

Once the 500-mark has been met, the cost will be $5 per monitor or TV. Car loads of small appliances, excluding monitors or TVs, will be accepted free of charge throughout the day. Items not accepted at the PCC Sylvania “E-Cycling” drive include microwave ovens, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, automobile tires, air conditioners and large appliances.
