Advice and assistance for homeowners and potential homeowners will be offered from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Housing and Foreclosure Prevention Fair.

The free event is open to the public. Hosted by Portland Community College, the event will take place in the Physical Education Building of the Cascade Campus, 705 N. Killingsworth St. at Kirby Avenue.

U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon is sponsoring the event.

The event is designed for people who are concerned about keeping their homes, or who are interested in buying their first home. Participants will include credit counselors, homebuyer educators, experts in first-time home buying, foreclosure prevention specialists, nonprofit housing staff and mortgage professionals.

“Information is the first, best tool that a home buyer needs,” said Preston Pulliams, president of Portland Community College. “We hope this event will give people exactly the information they need to buy a home or keep their home.”

“The mortgage crisis is something that has impacted people from all segments of our culture,” said Algie Gatewood, president of Cascade Campus. “Thousands of families are facing the prospect of losing their most significant asset, and this has a profound effect on our larger society. I’m very pleased that Cascade Campus is able to serve as a link between our local families and the resources that may be able to help them, and I’m grateful that Sen. Smith has taken the initiative on this critical issue.”

Parking is free but limited. The Cascade Campus is served by Tri-Met bus routes 4, 44 and 72.
