A look at news stories about PCC from around the local area and the nation last month. In total, PCC events and people appeared 64 times in the local community or national online media, newspapers or TV/radio.

Sept. 1, Jan Abushakrah was the subject of a story in The Oregonian about boomers going back to college.

Sept. 3, Daily Journal of Commerce focused on Gov. Ted Kulongoski appointing two members of the SBDC to the Oregon Small Business Advisory Council.

Sept. 4, Portland Tribune featured the drying up of commercial student loans with a PCC slant.

Sept. 4, Portland Tribune highlighted “Getting Your Recipe to Market” class through the SBDC and Oregon State.

Sept. 7, The Oregonian spotlighted the issue of loans drying up for small businesses and featured the SBDC.

Sept. 7, a graduate of the Portland Teachers Program was profiled in The Sunday Orego-nian.

Sept. 9, The Asian Reporter featured 83-year-old Shirley Mattraw, who takes Jim Johnstone’s ceramics class every term to make her signature mugs, fired in the Japanese raku method.

Sept. 11, Life by Design was featured in a special supplement focused on ‘the good life’ by the Portland Tribune.

Sept. 11, Mark Andres winning Art Educator of the Year from the Oregon Art Associa-tion made news in the Beaverton Valley Times.

Sept. 12, Tualatin Times showcased the biomedical option offered by the Engineering Technology program.

Sept. 12, The Portland Business Journal showcased the PCC bond and what the money from it would do for each campus.

Sept. 16, The Portland Tribune highlighted the difficulties of selling municipal bonds in the credit crunch environment and mentioned PCC’s bond measure.

Sept. 17, KUIK radio showcased the new renewable energy technician option in the Elec-tronics Engineering Technology program.

Sept. 17, The Portland Skanner and Observer highlighted the Cascade Open House that occurred Sept. 19.

Sept. 18, The Tigard Times and Portland Tribune showcased the donor base for the bond campaign.

Sept. 19, The Portland Observer featured PCC’s bond measure in several articles detail-ing needs and possible expansion as well who will benefit.

Sept. 21, The New York Times featured Toby Dittrich in his summer efforts to help re-search global climate change.

Fall, the Business Viewpoint magazine featured PCC twice in stories about business in-vestment in education with the college’s partnership with Genentech and another that fea-tured the college’s work in alternative energy.

Sept. 24, the Portland Observer showcased the new renewable energy technician option at the Sylvania Campus.

Sept. 24, KGW-TV ran a live feed from the Sylvania Campus about people going back to school to retrain due to the down economy.

Sept. 25, The Regal Courier profiled the King City Civic Association’s new administra-tor, a former PCC student.

Sept. 25, a new sustainability effort between Washington County agencies will have an educational component based at PCC-Rock Creek, reported The Oregonian.

Sept. 26, The Daily Journal of Commerce featured a photo of Preston Pulliams on the golf course with Skanska’s David Osborne from the recent foundation golf challenge.

Sept. 26, The Hillsboro Argus showcased the new Bioscience Technology training pro-gram to benefit local companies like Genentech.

Sept. 26, the Chronicle of Higher Education published statistics on how diverse colleges and universities are across the nation. PCC was the most diverse in Oregon.

Sept. 28, Oregonian columnist Susan Nielsen gives PCC’s bond a ‘maybe’ in her new story.
