PCC delegation heading to D.C. to speak to Oregon's congressional delegation

This column is supposed to be about the Oregon Capitol but, if it’s OK with you, for the next few days we’re going to make it about another Capitol.

On Sunday, I fly out to Washington, D.C. for what we call “Hill Days.” That is, we’re going to meet Oregon’s congressional delegation and fill them in on where things stand at for PCC.

Taking the trip will be President Preston Pulliams, several members of the PCC Board of Directors and Lorna O’Guinn, assistant to the board and all-around good egg.

We’ve got meetings set up with Sens. Wyden and Merkley. (OK, that’s just weird, thinking of Jeff Merkley as “Senator.” He was speaker of the Oregon House when last I saw him.) Plus, we’ll meet most of our House members.

The event is sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges and its Oregon branch, the Oregon Community College Association. There’s a conference, lectures, roundtables, panel discussions, et bloody cetera. Just like every conference you’ve ever attended.

Between us, I’m not so jazzed about that as I am about going to Congress and meeting up with our elected officials. I am a certified poli. sci. nerd. This is kid-in-a-candy-shop time for my people.
