Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 13 – for an early morning coffee at 7:15 a.m., followed by a lecture, “Post-Conflict Reconstruction – Challenges Facing Business, NGOs and the Obama Administration,” in the Performing Arts Center at Sylvania.

Mark Schneider, senior vice president and special advisor on Latin America for International Crisis Group, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group, and former director of the United States Peace Corps, will headline the event. There will be an opening welcome by Preston Pulliams and Mercy Corps’ Jeremy Barnicle beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Among the topics Schneider will address include post-conflict reconstruction; opportunities in public/private partnerships; the impact of conflict on the global business community; and career opportunities in international development.

Since leaving the Peace Corps in 2001, Schneider has served as senior vice president for International Crisis Group, directing its Washington advocacy office. He conveyed Crisis Group analyses and recommendations to the White House, State Department, Department of Defense and Congress, as well as the World Bank and other international organizations. He also serves as special advisor on Latin America and on HIV/AIDS and security.

This is the third installment in PCC’s Global Business Speaker Series, which features prominent speakers from the business community that are open to students, faculty and the general public. The series launched last year as a result of a two-year U.S. Department of Education grant awarded to PCC and associated organizations to fund global business initiatives.
