Portland Community College presents the

SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATORS (STTE)

2009 SUMMER SUSTAINABILITY INSTITUTE

Monday, July 13 – Friday, July 17

Portland, Oregon

High school, community college and university instructors are invited to apply for this free professional development opportunity to improve their knowledge of sustainable design and construction issues, trends, technologies and industry best practices. Residential green building and energy efficiency experts from Earth Advantage and Energy Trust of Oregon will help lead the institute. This week-long training will combine workshops, discussions, and site visits to notable green projects throughout Portland, leaving attendees better informed, prepared and inspired to integrate sustainable design and building into their curriculum.

The Institute will offer beginner/intermediate level training to 30 instructors, with a focus on residential design, construction technology and facilities maintenance technology, but it is open to all related disciplines. No prerequisites are required, and CEUs will be available for high school instructors. A limited number of shared hotel rooms will be available for out-of-town guests beginning Sunday, July 12. Participants will receive a daily stipend of $100, some meals, and all necessary course materials. The Institute will include a follow-up summit on Friday, September 11, to assess and share progress on the integration of the lessons of the Institute into course curriculum.

Instructors are required to complete an application stating how they plan to integrate the sustainability curriculum into their courses. Participants will be chosen based on the quality of their proposals and the relevancy of the Institute to their disciplines, recognizing the need to have a fair distribution across disciplines, institutions, and the region.
