Two “green” energy-producing companies with ties to Portland Community College now have ties to each other as well.

SolarWorld, a leading manufacturer of renewable energy systems in the nation, will provide a power source for the future home of Vestas’ continental headquarters in Portland, according to The Daily Journal of Commerce. Vestas is a leading manufacturer of wind turbans.

Vestas serves as an adviser for the Renewable Energy Systems Program offered at the PCC Sylvania Campus. The program – which offers both a two-year degree and one-year certificate – is part of Sylvania’s Electronic Engineering Technology Program.

SolarWorld is a long-time partner organization with PCC’s Microelectronics Program, housed at the Rock Creek Campus.

According to the journal’s July 28 edition, Vestas will outfit its new headquarters on Northwest Everett Street in Portland with a 112-kilowatt photovoltaic system from SolarWorld. The system will be the largest roof-mounted solar array in Portland’s central business district, the newspaper reported.
