PCC-area members of House gain leadership positions

Several members of the Oregon House of Representatives, whose districts connect with Portland Community College, have taken leadership roles during the interim between the 2011 and 2012 legislative sessions. A story on Senate leadership positions ran earlier this summer.

The interim appointments have been known in the past as the Emergency Board or E-Board.

Lawmakers in leadership, whose districts intertwine with that of PCC, include:

• Rep. Lew Frederick of North Portland is co-vice chairman of the Interim House Education Committee.

• Rep. Ben Cannon of East Portland is co-chair of the Energy, Environment and Water Committee.

• Rep. Mitch Greenlick of West Portland is co-chair of the Health Care Committee. Rep. Cannon serves as co-vice chair.

• Rep. Michael Dembrow of North Portland is co-chair of the Higher Education Committee.

• Rep. Frederick is co-vice chair of the Human Services Committee.

• Rep. Jeff Barker of West Portland is co-chair of the Judiciary Committee. Rep. Chris Garrett of Lake Oswego serves as co-vice chair.

• Rep. Jules Bailey of East Portland is one of two co-vice chairs for the Revenue Committee, along with Rep. Katie Eyre Brewer of Hillsboro.

• Rep. Tina Kotek of North Portland is co-chair of the Rules Committee.

• Rep. Tobias Read of Beaverton is co-vice chair of the Transportation and Economic Development Committee.

• Rep. Brad Witt of Clatskanie is co-chair of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

• Rep. Bailey is co-chair of the Joint Committee on Tax Credits.

• Rep. Chris Harker of Beavrton is co-chair of the Joint Legislative Audits and Information Management the Technology Committee.

No metro-area lawmakers are in a leadership position in the budget-writing Ways & Means Committee during the interm.

The interim committees are expected to meet Sept. 21 to 23; Nov. 16 to 18; and Jan. 18 to 20, 2012. The next legislative session is set for February 2012.
