PCC’s new international students create peace flags

Photos and Story by

The Office of International Education is welcoming more than 180 students from 50-plus countries to PCC for the fall term. New Student Orientation was held at the Rock Creek Campus on Aug. 24 and Sept 13. During this time students learned about PCC policies, rules for immigration and courses, American culture and safety as they prepare to begin their PCC careers.

PCC will have more than 180 international students who will be new to the college this fall. Many of them took part in a peace flag project during orientation.

In recognition of International Day of Peace (Sept. 21), the students who attended the orientations designed paper flags representing their personal interpretation of peace. International Day of Peace is a day set aside by the United Nations on which people everywhere do simple acts to work towards peace in their personal relationships and encourage peace in the larger conflicts in the world.

The new incoming students used art supplies to create a picture of peace in their lives. The flags are strung together and displayed outside of the Office of International Education at Rock Creek (Room 223, Building 3).
