Here is a look at some of the news stories about PCC from around the local area and the nation in March. In total, PCC events and people appeared 54 times in the local community or national online media, newspapers or TV/radio.

March 1: Southwest Community Connection & Portland Observer: Portland Community College has teamed up with a celebrated local theater director to produce a play about the college’s last 50 years.

March 2: Chronicle of Higher Education: At 21, Jordan P. Muntz has already taken classes at a half-dozen colleges. This semester he got into the program at Portland Community College.

March 2: The Oregonian: Mayor Sam Adams expanded on previous efforts, saying he would grow his city-funded scholarship program to include Mt. Hood Community College, Portland State University and Lewis and Clark College. It previously served only Portland Community College.

March 2: Hillsboro Argus & Government Technology: Portland Community College has partnered with three area organizations to develop a $350,000-$400,000 state-of-the-art, high fidelity mobile simulation vehicle to help its students simulate real-life emergencies.

March 5: Asian Reporter: Portland Community College and Portland State University have renewed a streamlined co-admission agreement that makes it easier for students to take classes at both institutions, live in PSU residence halls and complete their degrees.

March 8: KEX Radio: Andrew Roessler was interviewed by the station about Bank of America’s donation to the PCC Foundation that will assist 40 unemployed people in the Career Pathways Program.

March 12: Oregon Live & Library Journal: Janis Nichols dreamed up the Book Mark Project last summer when campus President David Rule asked her to create a signature project as part of Rock Creek’s contribution to the 50th anniversary celebration.

March 15: Lake Oswego Review & The Oregonian: The Grants Office at Portland Community College has announced an award of $50,000 from Bank of America to the PCC Foundation to provide partial tuition for at least 40 students pursuing a variety of career pathways.

March 16: Beaverton Valley Times, Community College Times, The Oregonian, Portland Observer, Beaverton Valley Times, Forest Grove News-Times & Chronicle of Higher Education: Portland Community College’s District President Preston Pulliams announced his plan to retire from the college in July 2013.

March 19: Daily Journal of Commerce: With more than 20,000 students on its Cascade campus throughout the year, Portland Community College has a strong presence in the Humboldt neighborhood. And its footprint is about to grow even larger.

March 21: St. Helens Chronicle: On March 17, students from Portland Community College’s architectural engineering class gathered at the new school to help install landscaping.

March 22: KGW TV: A crew from the station visited the Sylvania Campus to acquire footage of the snow storm.

March 22: Beaverton Valley Times: A program to increase efficiencies at Portland Community College may be rooted in basic cost savings, but the school’s faculty and staff are embracing the opportunity to express and initiate ideas and innovations.
