Want to become an everyday hero? Then this event will be for you. The Cascade Campus Emergency Services Department is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, May 30 at the Public Services Education Building, Cascade Campus. It will feature programs like Fire Protection, Emergency Telecommunicator-911 Dispatch, Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management.

The centerpiece of the day is at mock multi vehicle crash with injuries at noon in the PSEB parking lot. Students from these programs collaborate to simulate an Emergency Services response and demonstrate the teamwork involved. Student 911 Dispatchers receive and process calls reporting the incident, providing medical aid instructions over the phone while dispatching Police, Fire and Medical units. Fire students will demonstrate how they extricate patients from a wrecked vehicle and control scene safety. EMT and Paramedic students will demonstrate how they administer emergency medical treatment in order to prepare patients for transport to the hospital. Meanwhile, field sobriety tests are given to the driver of the vehicle by Public Safety ultimately resulting in an arrest for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

The Student Fire Fighters Association will be hosting a barbeque fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis after the simulation exercise. Cost is $1 per hamburger meal and ice cream dessert.
