McGuire-Sessions was initially hired as the director of nursing in 2008 following a national search. She spent three years in that role. Under her leadership, the program became a member of the Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education (OCNE), which is a partnership of shared curriculum with Oregon Health Sciences University and seven other Oregon community colleges. This partnership enables PCC nursing students to co-admit into OHSU and seamlessly transition to OHSU for completion of a Bachelors degree.

While the program was implementing the major curriculum change required to transition to OCNE, McGuire-Sessions , assisted by faculty and staff, also accomplished an eight year continuing accreditation by the Oregon State Board of Nursing and the National League for Nursing. This accomplishment was due to many hours of preparation required for the self-study and site visit for both the Oregon State Board of Nursing and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

In 2011, the Oregon State Board of Nursing offered her a position to oversee the practice of nursing for the Oregon State Board of Nursing. In July of 2012, McGuire-Sessions returned to PCC as the program’s interim director and was offered the permanent position this January.

It really is wonderful to be back at PCC with the faculty and students that make this job so engaging,” said McGuire-Sessions. “Add to that the program support that is provided by Sylvania leadership, it made for an easy decision to return to the Director position.“
