Monday, May 13 – PCC Day at the Capitol

Stand with PCC! Join the PCC community as students, staff, faculty, administrators, and members of PCC’s Board of Directors travel to Salem to visit the capitol and meet with legislators. The purpose is to remind them about how PCC gives people the chance to earn a college education, obtain professional skills for in-demand jobs, and achieve their dreams. In addition to meeting legislators, participants will get the chance to witness a floor session, visit PCC booths, and congratulate this year’s Diamond Alum Award winners who will be announced during the luncheon presentation. This will be a fun, exciting day full of PCC pride and spirit on behalf of the college, with lunch and transportation provided! It starts early; buses are aiming to roll down to Salem from the campuses at 8 a.m., to return to Portland at 4:30 p.m. Registration is required; visit the Web site to pre-register and for more information: http://opportunity.pcc.edu/pcc-day-at-the-capitol/

Tuesday, May 14 – Spirit Day

Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to wear PCC t-shirts, buttons, pins, hats, socks, earrings, tattoos, and Diamond paraphernalia to show their pride in Portland Community College! The more decked out in PCC attire, the better! Upload photos to the story wall on the PCC Opportunity microsite (http://opportunity.pcc.edu/story-wall/) or visit any PCC Bookstore on this day, and participants will be entered in a drawing for a big giveaway. And anyone who simply visits a PCC Bookstore, and is wearing PCC gear, will receive a cool prize, too. Show your Diamond Pride!

Wednesday, May 15 – Happy Birthday, PCC!

May 15is PCC’s official birthday! Celebrate at birthday parties featured at each of PCC’s campuses. Music, food, fun and more! Check with the local campus community relations managers for more details.

Thursday, May 16 – CCP at PCC

Can more be done to encourage constructive conversations about important problems that face communities today? If you believe so, plan to attend “PCC Discusses: Talk for A Change,” from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Lobby at the Sylvania Campus. Hosted by the Center for Civic Participation at Portland Community College (CCP at PCC), the discussion will focus on “Democracy’s Challenge: Deliberations on the Public’s Role.” The newly launched CCP at PCC is inspired by the groundbreaking work of the National Issues Forum (NIF) model developed by the Kettering Foundation. The center is rooted in the simple notion that people need to come together to reason and talk — to deliberate about common problems. Indeed, democracy requires an ongoing deliberative public dialogue that develops an active citizenry capable of discussing important social/political/cultural issues. All are welcome to this first session!

Friday, May 17 – All-College Picnic and Preston Pulliams’ Retirement Party

All are invited to President Preston Pulliams’ retirement send-off! Join students, staff, faculty, retirees and alumni at the All-College Picnic, to take place at the Sylvania Campus Performing Arts Center courtyard, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Enjoy tributes to Dr. Pulliams, live music, and lunch with the PCC family. Cost is $5.

Saturday, May 18 – “An Evening for Opportunity,” the PCC Foundation Gala

The PCC Foundation invites those at the college to attend the annual formal gala, benefiting student scholarships and success programs at PCC. Join nearly 600 community leaders and PCC supporters to honor President Pulliams on the occasion of his retirement. To honor him, the event will be themed around his favorite music: Motown! Tickets are $150; sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, visit the website at: www.pcc.edu/gala
