This summer, PCC selected JE Dunn Construction to build its new Trades Education Center on Swan Island at 6400 N. Cutter Circle. Construction is scheduled to start by mid-September.  Developing the new training facility creates the opportunity for the college to move its Trades and Industry Program from Cascade Campus to the heart of the Swan Island industrial and manufacturing community.  This, in turn, will open up more classrooms for Cascade Campus‘ expanding academic programming.

In the first phase of development for the new center, PCC will remodel the existing building and build an addition – creating about 23,000 square feet of new space to relocate seven classroom, four labs, and faculty office space.  PCC’s Trades and Industry Program provides training  for Facilities Maintenance Technology /HVAC-R, Electrical Trades Apprenticeship (consisting of motors, refrigeration and electrical), and Fiber Optics.

JE Dunn Construction‘s local office is less than six miles from Swan Island and was selected based on the company’s history of workforce diversity and community stewardship.  Direct construction costs for the first phase of development is approximately $3.6 million, and construction is scheduled to be completed in June 2014.

PCC’s 2008 voter-approved $374 million bond program is increasing opportunities for residents to access quality, affordable higher education close to where they live and work. Additional classrooms, updated equipment and technology, and advanced workforce training programs are helping to pave the way for future employment options.
