College community invited to attend finalist forums for vice president position

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend a series of finalist candidate forums for Portland Community College’s vice presidency.

The position reports to Jeremy Brown, PCC’s president, and the role serves to provide strategic leadership throughout the district PCC serves, tackling such issues as compliance, legal matters, and the implementation of PCC’s strategic plan.

Following is the forum schedule:

  • Monday, July 21
  • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Sylvania Campus, College Center (CC) Building, Conference Rooms A & B
  • Candidate: Kurt Ewen – Valencia Community College, Assistant Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning, Presidential Fellow

For the past 14 years, Ewen has worked at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fla. Among his accomplishments as the assistant vice president of institutional effectiveness and planning are the development, implementation, and integration of the college’s plan for assessment of learning; development, support, and maintenance of college-wide structures, processes and expectations for integrated operational planning; college-wide strategic planning; academic program planning and operational decision-making with quantitative and qualitative research, reports, and data analysis; and the development and maintenance of a comprehensive, integrated management information system. He currently serves as a presidential fellow to the president of Valencia College.

  • Candidate: Sylvia Kelley – Southern Oregon University, Vice President for Development and Executive Director of the Foundation

For the past six years, Kelley has served as the vice president for development and as executive director of Southern Oregon University’s foundation. She is responsible for university-wide strategic planning, change management, budget and resources development, personnel, student government, legal and legislative issues, community outreach, information technology, facilities planning, financing, and marketing.  Kelley’s responsibilities also include fundraising strategies and campaigns, leadership of the foundation board of directors, oversight of the foundation’s investments, funds and properties, student scholarship management, major gift fundraising, planned gifts, alumni affairs, grants, database technology, and community outreach. Prior to this role, Kelley served as vice president for institutional advancement at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
