Rock Creek Choir presents ‘Soulful Celebration’ for holidays

Photos and Story by

Portland Community College Rock Creek Choirs will present Handel’s “Messiah” and “A Soulful Celebration” at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Forum Theater, Room 114, Building 3, Rock Creek Campus.

The Rock Creek Choirs, under the direction of Pollyanna Hancock-Moody, invite you to celebrate this holiday season with this unique presentation. Classical music shares the stage with contemporary arrangements in this high octane program. Audiences will enjoy select choruses from Handel’s 1741 “Messiah” as well as “A Soulful Celebration,” a reinterpretation of the “Messiah” which has been widely praised for its use of multiple genres of African American music, Hancock-Moody said. The concert will also feature international jazz performer and Portland icon Marilyn Keller as special guest soloist.

The proceeds from this concert will help fund the Rock Creek Campus Choir Program. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students under 16. Admission is free for PCC students and staff with ID and children under 10. Tickets (cash or check only) are available at the door. Donations for the choral program are appreciated and are accepted at the door. Parking is free in the event parking area immediately behind Building 9.

This concert is intended to raise awareness about the Rock Creek Music Program, which offers vocal classes as well as a community choir on Thursday evenings. All singers are welcome. For more information on the choir and the concerts, contact Jason Palmer at jason.palmer@pcc.edu, or (971) 722-7869.
