Now that the bond program has turned PCC Southeast into a full-fledged campus, students and faculty have a lot more classroom and study space. Among those who are thriving in this new environment is the English Department, which has greatly expanded its range of creative writing courses since 2009 from two to three a year to seven, including poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and scriptwriting.

Although home for the department is Mt. Scott Hall, members of the Creative Writing Club often use the new three-story, 40,000-square-foot Library, which houses the Student Computing Center, Student Learning Center (including tutoring services), Volunteer Literacy Center, traditional library services, four classrooms and independent and group project/study areas.

And then there’s the new 66,000-square-foot Student Commons, which features an expanded bookstore, five science classrooms/labs, six general purpose classrooms, four career technical education/ computer classrooms, a new answer center and a new center for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

PCC’s 2008 voter-approved $374 million bond program is increasing opportunities for residents to access quality, affordable higher education close to where they live and work. Additional classrooms, updated equipment and technology, and advanced workforce training programs are helping to pave the way for future employment options.
