Interested in creating a sustainable future? There’s an opportunity for staff, faculty and students to celebrate United Nations Day at the World Forestry Center on Thursday, Oct. 22 and get involved in creating that future. Join Charles Hopkins, UNESCO chair on Education for Sustainable Development; Eric Vines, executive director of the World Forestry Center; Kim Smith, PCC sociology instructor and coordinator of the Greater Portland Sustainability Education Network; and Kyoko Shiota, from the United Nations University, to explore how to think global, act local.

The event, sponsored by the United Nations Association of Portland, is from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22 in the forestry center’s Cheatham Hall, 4033 SW Canyon Road. Doors opens at 6 p.m. This event is free but registration is required. To register, visit the World Affairs Council of Oregon signup page.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the vanguard and find out how Oregon and Washington are helping lead the way in regional, national, and international programs. Discover how you can engage in your own community. With this year’s World Forestry Congress in South Africa, the release of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and UNESCO’s Global Action Program, and the upcoming climate change talks in Paris, the time is ripe to envision a sustainable future and highlight actions in our own communities that are making a difference.

This program is co-sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Oregon, Greater Portland Sustainability Education Network, World Forestry Center, Portland Community College and ONE.
