Cascade Campus student writing takes center stage Nov. 8 for Harvest of the Word Festival

PCC student writers will take center stage on Tuesday, Nov. 8 when the annual Harvest of the Word Festival makes its annual return. Students will share their poems, scripts, short fiction, and creative nonfiction works from noon to 2 p.m. in the Moriarty Arts & Humanities Building Auditorium at the Cascade Campus (705 N. Killingsworth St.). The festivities will be capped off by a performance of live student music.
The Harvest of the Word is a great opportunity for students to present their work to the outside world, and also to help them confront and overcome some of the anxieties that accompany sharing one’s creative efforts, said Gardner Mein, an English instructor and the organizer of the event.
“I think students get more from college than just the curriculum,” Mein said. “You discover what it is you have to say. You learn different ways of shaping expression into communication. It’s exciting to watch students share their ideas and visions before a live audience.”
This year’s Harvest of the Word is the seventh annual iteration of the festival, which has become a much-anticipated date among writing students at Cascade. The event is free and open to the public, and free refreshments will be served.
“It’s a really good time for everyone,” Mein said. “I hope lots of folks turn out to support these budding writers in our midst.”
